Product Description

Alexandri Magni Macedonis Expeditio; Highly decorative map showing the region covered by Alexander the Great and illustrating the region based upon geography contemporary to his reign. Includes numerous notes throughout. Extends from the Mediteranean and Aegean Seas to India. With beautiful title cartouche and a second cartouche on the right depicting a soldier. puttto and medallions with the portrait of Alexander the Great. Verso: blank

This original antique print originates from “Accuratissima orbis Antiqui Delineatio” by Johannes Janssonius (a.k.a Jan Jansson), published from 1652 – 1700, in 7 editions.

Condition: Good. General age-related toning and light staining from handling. Paper separation lower middle fold; backed. Bottom margin sllightly browned and soiled. Overal a very nice copy with a very strong impression.

Medium: Copperplate engraving on a verge type of hand-laid paper with hand colour. Original fold.
